Following their successful trial in Causalworlds 2024, two “unconference sessions” will take place during Causalworlds 2026, on Thursday and Friday afternoons. Unlike traditional conferences, an unconference is a participant-driven meeting that prioritises informal discussions on topics of interest to the participants. The sessions will consist of discussions in small breakout groups. Topics can be proposed in advance and voted upon, and the organising committee will group and curate the propositions into break-out sessions based on common themes. Even if you don’t want to lead a discussion, you can still submit a topic anonymously.
At Causalworlds 2026, we will have two types of unconference sessions: (1) academic and (2) science and society.
Any and all topics pertinent to Causalworlds can be proposed for an academic break-out session. The following are some examples of topics that you might suggest:
- What is the definition of causality?
- What is the role of agency in causality?
- How are relativistic and information-theoretic notions of causality related?
Any relevant topics can be proposed for a science and society break-out session. Examples include:
- Topics relating to equity, diversity and inclusion in science
- Hiring procedures and immigration issues
- Work life balance for international researchers
